The School of Natural Science which grew out of the Basis Department of Anhui Agricultural College, was renamed the School of Arts and Sciences and School of Basic Science respectively in 1994 and 2002. Through restructuring and adjustment, the School of Natural Science was established in 2004. It consists of five departments: Applied Mathematics, Applied Chemistry, Applied Physics, Statistics and Spatial Information Science. It also has five research institutions: Chemistry Experiment Teaching Center, Physical Experiment Teaching Center, Comprehensive Teaching Center, Applied Mathematics Institution, Geomatics and 3S Technology Institution. At present, it has four disciplines: Information and Computing Science, Applied Chemistry, Applied Statistics and Geomatics Engineering.
The School of Natural Science has 900 students and 110 faculty members, among whom one is a distinguished professor, 13 professors, 25 associate professors, 25 master’s supervisors and two outstanding teachers at the provincial level.
The School of Natural Science emphasizes scientific research,and ever-broadening cooperation. It has established cooperative relationships with the National Engineering Research Center for Information Technology in Agriculture, Hefei Institute of Physical Science and other institutes, colleges and universities. During the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015), it hosted 6 teaching and research programs at national level, and 20 at the provincial level. Besides this, 20 teaching materials have been compiled at the national and provincial (ministerial) levels, four of which won the “Excellent Teaching Material Award Among National Agricultural Colleges and Universities.” It completed “Fine Course Construction” concerning Mathematics and Chemistry, and the construction of a demonstration center for basic chemistry at the provincial level and other awards at both the national and provincial level. In addition, it has applied for five patents and 17 programs were supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, two by the National Social Science Foundation, and more than 30 programs at provincial or ministerial level. Its faculties has delivered some 300 theses as first author, among which 50 were collected in SCI, 20 in EI, and more than 100 in core journals, with the highest impact factor of 11.261.
In the past few years, its students have achieved over 50 awards in various national and provincial competitions. Its students have enjoyed a high postgraduate enrollment rate and employment rate, pursuing their careers in various top enterprises.
